So I am thinking about joining the Navy....

I am 21 years old, I am 6' about 300lb (and no I am not a mountain of jiggly jello, I have some good old red neck in me so I pretty muscular and wide framed I have been told I dont look over 245/250)

I am pretty good with computers (minor hacking, mainly cleaning up computers)

I am great with people.

I can fire a gun, great hand eye coordination.

I am really good with Math, Reading, and figuring things out (like how a watch works, or how to put something together after taking it apart)

I dont mind getting dirty (sometimes I get ocd about my hands but its pretty rare).

Also I get sort of ADD when I am not doing multiple things at once, or something doesnt make me use a lot of intelligence to do (like doing my computer work at work and working on mahalo while listening to Anime on the background)

Anyone have and Ideas of what job would be best for me (I already took their test but they dont give you like a check list of what you would be good at).

Any pros or cons about being in the Navy (dont be dumb and say they are all gay or that youll be shipped to iraq and killed, it doesnt bother me).

I am kind of looking for those who might have been in the Navy or have buddies that were. (US Navy please....I dont need to hear how in Soviet Russia Submarine Dives you)

Head over to your local Legion. Buy a few folks a couple of cheap beers. This will go a long way.

However, the best bet is really to talk with a recruiter. Here's how to find one:
http://www.navy.com/findarecruiter/

Just a quick note that I've heard that Military Recruiters are well trained sales people. Before you talk to one, I suggest that you talk to current and previous Military folks to get an idea of what Navy life is like from their perspective.

Good choice. Sounds like you might be a good fit for the Navy.

Well I have talked to recruiters before ( I was a JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp Cadet in high school) I just wanted to know if anyone thinks it might be a horrible idea.

I might look into the whole beer thing....but remember we have american piss beer here =(....

I have had friends from every branch, the ones that seem to enjoy it the most are Airforce, Navy and the National Guard. Look into all three if you haven't seen the others already. The Guard's man said it turned his life around, he is a paralegal in the guard, but before that he had a string of dead end jobs.

"Also I get sort of ADD when I am not doing multiple things at once, or something doesnt make me use a lot of intelligence to do (like doing my computer work at work and working on mahalo while listening to Anime on the background)" I would say guard duty will not be your forte. My friend described it as doing nothing for hours at at time is harder then it sounds.

"I am really good with Math, Reading, and figuring things out (like how a watch works, or how to put something together after taking it apart)" Nice! This opens doors, building & repair really comes to mind. ^_^

I am ex-Navy. It worked out well for me.
Main pro's are steady job, good training, great chance to travel. If you haven't been to college yet there are good educational benefits.
Main con's are low pay, conformist requirements, chance of bad assignments/locations.
If you are married or contemplating marriage, divorce is an occupational hazard in the Navy. On the other hand, you might find an exotic foreign wife.
Check out the body fat requirements and general pt requirements. These have become more strict over the years. They are much less than in the Marines but still a challenge to non-athletic civilians. Of course, you get to practice and train up to them. But in your remarks you do sound heavy and short winded.
You don't need to and probably won't get a chance to shoot a gun or be more than an end user on a computer.
If you are thinking enlisted, investigate the aviation rates, such as electronics repair. They might be suitable. I know less about officers but expect lots more paperwork, management, and politics for them.

Yah to be an officer you need to have 4 years of college so thats not going to happen.

They say I have to lose 99lbs....I dont know about that though...ill have to talk to a recruiter.

Looking at the stats I think I could probably pull it off http://www.navy-prt.com/malestandard/20-24.html

Doesn't sound like @rishiku is built for subs. But that's only a small part of the Navy. The sub guys don't need to know how to swim as much as the guys who might fall overboard.

Hey man if you want to join thats great. I'm in the Army Reserves myself. It can be a good experience or a very bad one. I highly recommend that you loose some weight before you enlist. You can't get anywhere in the military if your overweight. No promotions, no schools and no respect form your pears.
For example I'm 6' 1 and the max wait for me at 35 is 208. I can pass the tape at 230. I recommend that you loose a lest 70 pounds. Now I think in the Navy you can way more but I was just giving you an example.

Oh yeah It is my understanding that in the Army (maybe other banchs too) you can be commissioned with a 2yr degree. But you need a 4yr degree to get passed O-4. Note this is for OCS not ROTC.

Good luck and if you get in be safe.

Do you like sports? Basketball, softball etc. You sound like you like to stay busy. You like people. Do you like going to the gym? Are you planning o attend any colleges? My personal choice would be MWR, Moral,Welfare and recreation. When I was in the service these guys got to do everything. Set up the ball fields and set up leagues, games in all the different sports. The uniform of the day way shorts and T shirts with tennis shoes. They had great hours and plenty of time to go to school. I thought the MWR Team had the most fun and were the busiest taking care of everyone else. I know there are down sides to every job but in this one they seemed to have a blast. If they wanted to have a cookout or softball game, they got support from everywhere.

This is just a thought. But I know this is the funner side of the service.

Yay! That's quite good for you... ^^ I think people who answered gave you enough tips on how to join the Navy so I'm just gonna wish you luck! :)

I think you're qualified based on the details you listed. If you're a little chubby, you just have to shed a little fat. As @albanian said, one of main cons of joining the Navy is the low pay. But I think it's okay because you could get a lot of benefits after wards.

I have an uncle based in the US who's now a retired Navy. Because of the benefits he got, they are quite well off now. I have an aunt to who is still in the Navy and it's the same, she's enjoying quite numerous benefits.

Again, good luck! I hope everything will turn out good! ^^
