Seems you have answered your own question. Get yourself noticed and people will eventually come to you. Setup a blog site where you can show off your work and highlight your skills. http://wordpress.com is a great place to start. then join the likes of twitter and facebook and start searching...u will be surprised how quickly you can move ahead.
