How do I ask for time off?

Ok I've work in 45 minutes or so... and I want to take the weekend of the 10th of July off. I want to tell my boss I want to take it off but how do I do it? He's an alright guy, kind of grumpy most of the time and I just don't know how to phrase it? I'm 18 and it's the longest job I've ever had (over a year) and I'd really like the time off... any tips anyone?

That can depend on where you work. Sometimes there is a procedure for requesting time off. Even if that is the case, it is wise to go to your manager and let them know what days you want off work.

It helps if you don't ask for time off too often, so reserve it for things that are important, such as a once-a-year family trip, to take your kids to the doctor, or going to the doctor yourself. We all have to take off time for emergencies now and then, too.

If you're good at your job and in good standing at work, most employers will be gracious about granting you the time off that you need.

Just ask your boss, will it be ok for him to give you off on that particular weekend. He may appreciate you are asking early about his opinion. If he say no, then ask when he would like to give you a weekend off. Try not to get into an argument.
