1. Camp counselor: group activity, team work, responsibility, etc.
2. Life Guard: outdoors, responsible
3. Restaurant Bus Boy/Barback/etc: Great team work and customer facing. Just be careful they don't stay after work (can get a little nuts with the older folks--trust me, I know).
4. Light Construction/Gardening: Hard work is good for the soul. Learning how to bust your butt carrying heavy stuff makes you learn to appreciate corporate life--I know it did for me. :-)

This year, people will be going on holiday - so why not look after the neighbourhood's pets? Or get paid to babysit instead?
It would depend on you age - if you are old enough, you could get a job as a travel agent - and you could go to another country and help tourists.
As well, store large buckets of water. Trust me! There will be a heatwave, and if water supplies run out - the need for water will be an necessity. People will pay ANYTHING for water to drink especially in desperate situations. I mean, you will be really rich!

The pay is on par or above McDonalds but the job is slightly better. You get to choose which department you work in (hide back in the deli or work outside getting buggies). Plus, I always found that the other kids who worked at grocery stores were always nice and generally wanted to be there.
Above all else though, finding a place that will teach some baseline skills is important. Fast food or not, finding somewhere that will teach the 16 year old "how" to work is more important than the place they work or even how much money he or she makes.

If you're looking for a job closer to home, try looking in your local newspaper to see what's available. Start telling your friends, people at church, parents etc. that you are looking for a job. Many of them will be able to give you insider information on what jobs are good, and which ones are horrible. They may even be able to pull some strings to get you into a job.

I'm sixteen, I edited it, to add that, however, how would I work for Mahalo?? I am looking for something 9-5, thats like $7 an hour. Right now I'm working at a grocery store, but I don't get enough hours.

No, you cannot WORK for Mahalo - instead you can earn money with Mahalo by answering questions.
I suggest that you go to several shops local to you and compare prices and workhours. Then be able to choose which one to work for. However, the pay for going abroad and being a travel guide is very good.

My personal favorite at 16 were grocery stores. The pay is on par or above McDonalds but the job is slightly better. You get to choose which department you work in (hide back in the deli or work outside getting buggies). Plus, I always found that the other kids who worked at grocery stores were always nice and generally wanted to be there.

Are you looking for a full time job- as in 40 hours a week? Or a full time job that will keep you out of your home the whole summer? I know some couple on the East coast will pay to have a teen live with them for the summer and babysit their kids. The pay is good, and you get to travel somewhere.

I remember having the chance to work in restaurants and fast food at that age range. Although it is very tiring, the pay is pretty much ok. It got me my allowance for a good few months and it bought me a lot of stuffs that I need for school like new books and some gadgets like calculator. But what I really wanted that time was to have a cruise ship job. To get paid while I travel is the best thing that could ever happen, and to think about all the single on a cruise ship.. Cooooooolll.
