Obviously diamonds are going to be extremely popular. They're classical and, being clear, they match just about everything a woman could wear.

Blue and green stones are always popular. The sapphire and the emerald are vivid and can really bring out the color in clothing, or a person's eyes.

My suggestion would be (if this is a gift) to find out what color clothes the person likes, or just what color in general, and buy a stone to match.
