Jazz trumpeter Freddie Hubbard died this week. What was your favorite memory of his work?

Freddie was a Jazz Giant. He played on one of the best jazz standards of all time, Maiden Voyage with Herbie Hancock. The solo he played was incredible and is one my favorite memories of listening to my old LP's. I was fortunate to get to hear him play at the Roxie in LA back around 1980. Let's share our memories to honor him. I'll let everyone choose the memory that touches them most as the Best Answer.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.
