@jasoncalacanis you posted this question in june of 2007, did the answers help you reach your goals or are you still working on them?

Im wondering what you were thinking at this moment when first starting mahalo asking questions like this, did they help you or did you end up going your own route? What are some of the trials and tribulations you had?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

These were asked as much to engage smart people in our mission as they were to get actual ideas.

We got a huge response to these type of questions because the ideas around Mahalo and knowledge search are compelling and complex. Over the last three years or so I've tried to get the idea into people's mind so that as we progressed they would get a deeper and deeper understanding of our product and the space.

As you can see there are other folks trying to solve the knowledge search problem including StumbleUpon, Delicious, twitter search, vark, chacha and the failed wikia search product. My goal is to have our name at the center of these discussion so, at the very least, people consider what we're doing.

So, it's not the ideas that are important, it's the discussion.

I did like the suggestion of live chats with operators to single out what the user is searching for on Mahalo. The concept would offer an idea of what pages still need to be created. It would also focus on Mahalo being the source for that information. Of course, that would mean as page managers, we would have to constantly update anything to do with the specified topic or related topics.

You sure did generate a lot of discussion with that question, didn't you?
