about Thich Nhat Hanh
It seems the United States is bold when it comes to small countries and not when it comes to big, powerful countries like China... comments?
The US has condemned Vietnam's recent conviction of nine democracy activists, the arrest of a writer and the expulsion of Buddhist monks from a monastery where they practiced the peaceful teachings of a renowned Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh.
Thich Nhat Hanh was exiled from Vietnam in 1966 and is a soft-spoken peace activist who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
In a deja vu of phrases reminiscent of the actions of China against Falun Gong human rights activists, Vietnam says the US should not mess with their "internal affairs."

The US considers all its national interests in interactions with other countries, as do all countries governed in at least quasi-rational ways. Regarding smaller countries, there are usually (though not always) fewer considerations. In those cases it is easier for the US to try to use its influence for what its leadership considers right.
