It seems like everybody's on FaceBook. I don't have an account. Am I missing out on something?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My opinion, which of course you would expect, since I'm the one typing it:

Nope. Not unless you're looking for someone in *particular* (like an old high school classmate or a family member or like that). It's rather hard to "find" someone else to meet. One has to be rather "trustful" don't you think? You'd have to "gamble" on joining "groups" of various sorts. Like, say, search on all the folks who live in your town (Happytown, Somestate) and guess that one of'em (Herbert Hoover) would be a worthwhile friend based on Herbert's profile and photo?

Not for me. Especially considering the recent flap about what info other people (including Facebook themselves) can keep and access from your profile...

As mentioned by others, there is a lot of nonsense going around on facebook (send your friend some flare!, etc.) and yes my friends too are addicted to that stuff.

But it is a good way to make contact with people you used to know and see what is happening in their lives (sometimes maybe too much information)

You can always be like me and just create an account with only the basic information about yourself and just ignore all the goofy requests.

Maybe, it depends on what you are looking for in a social network online. I signed up for facebook a few years ago and got instant satisfaction as I quickly reconnected with old friend, schoolmates and family members from my past and present. Soon I became annoyed because I remembered how much I hated most of these people from the past and was annoyed at receiving updates and getting friend requests from ex-girlfriends. Facebook suddenly became more awkward than useful.

Also it seems most of the people on facebook are not tech savvy, I had been working within social networks for years before I joined facebook and was annoyed at how my real life friends acted on the Internet (adding spammy apps etc...) At this point, facebook for me is nothing more then a place of contact for old friends who might want to get a hold of me.

So, in conclusion, if you want to reconnect with old friends facebook might be the network for you.
