Freddy had already started killing children before his daughter, Kathryn, was taken. When his wife, Loretta, and daughter discovered the evidence linking Freddy to the murder of the kidnapped children, Freddy strangled his wife in front of his daughter. When Freddy was arrested for the murders, his daughter was taken away from him and adopted. She was later renamed as Maggie Burroughs. Freddy was released due to inadmissible evidence and a mob was formed to try to kill him.
