Is YouTube known for virus downloads?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The debate is on, there are some that say because YouTube is dependent onFlash for its use, that it may be subject to hackers who may maliciously add viruses to the video that you have chosen to embed. However some say that these videos do not contain viruses however the player that you download to view the YouTube videos may indeed contain viruses that could harm your computer. Many think it is impossible to get a virus from YouTube, and that those who say they do, got it from some previously viewed site or download.
The best thing to do if this is the case is to check to see if anyone has gotten a virus, worm, trojan or any other infection from a player that they have downloaded before downloading it to your computer. The good thing is that if you are just trying to view the videos, there is no need to download them to your computer because you can watch them at YouTube, and you will notice that the embed code is viewable, so if you know anything about code you will spot the virus. While I don't think that this is a problem, you can never be too careful.
Another thing to watch out for is getting fake YouTube pages that may contain viruses, these come through your email that tell you to come to a page on Youtube for some kind of error and then you end up getting a virus. Do not follow these emails, if you should get one open a seperate browser window and go directly to the site, if something is wrong it will be announced at the site with real links to what you need to do to fix the problem.
