I live in a tiny village in Dorset, England and it is the perfect place for a vacation to get away from noise, people and the rat race of life. Clustered around the village church of Okeford Fitzpaine are sweet thatched cottages with gardens full of colourful flowers. Many people grow their own vegetables, and of course we have a traditional pub. The surrounding countryside was the inspiration for the Thomas Hardy novels such as Far from the Madding Crowd and Tess of the D'Urbervilles. Whenever I drive home from work I have to climb a steep hill in the car and then there is a dip as the whole countryside rolls away with Iron age forts, the sea and the hills stretching out in front of me as I ride downhill and back to the village. A beautiful peaceful place perfect for a vacation.

Yes I live in a tourist area. We have all types of resorts and things to do in the summer and skiing in the winter. It's the Poconos and people even come here to get married. And now we have Casinos and gambling.

As a matter of fact, I live in a small town of about 9,000 on the shore of Lake Michigan. St Joseph, Michigan is a vacation destination for tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousand each year. We have a beautiful beach on Lake Michigan and a marina that is home to thousands of motor and sail boats. Every weekend during the summer we have events such as Iron Man Triathlons, sailboat regattas, professional beach volleyball, and art fairs. The fun begins with the BlossomTime parade early in Spring, and continues throughout the year. This weekend is one of the biggest of the summer, the Venetian Festival. From Thursday through Sunday, over 200,000 are expected to attend. If that's not a vacation destination, I don't know what is!
