Is wearing my hair in a ponytail often actually damaging my hair?

I will be honest, I wear my hair in a ponytail five or six days a week. I noticed a bunch of my hair caught in the band every time I take the ponytail out.

Is it safe for me to wear a ponytail almost every day or is it more damaging than I thought?

You are actually right. Wearing a ponytail often or everyday can be damaging to the hair.

You can either switch off and start wearing your hair down more, or just take extra precautions when wearing the hair up in a ponytail so that it is less damaging on the hair.

Instead of pulling the hair tight in a ponytail you can gather the hair loosely so there is not so much pull. You should also find cloth hair scrunchies instead of rubber bands. Sharp edged clips can be damaging, as well.

Now that you have a soft, cloth or silky hair scrunchie do not tie it around your hair too tightly. Loose is better on the hair. So if you have a choice to wrap the scrunchie around two or three times, try just two.

You can also pull your hair down in a low ponytail if your hair is long enough. This will require less hold from a ponytail!

Use a softer hair scrunchie than this!
