Is two-way video chat part of the gtalk API, the upcoming Yahoo Messenger API, and the fring API?
When will the FaceTime API be released?
I am researching open APIs (e.g. SkypeKit) which allow two-way video chat.
I want to know if two-way video chat is possible with the gtalk API.
How about the soon-to-be released Yahoo Messenger API?
How about the fring API?
And when will the FaceTime API be released?
Are there any other APIs, open or private, that do or will allow two-way video chat?
Please cite your sources to receive the tip.
Thanks a bunch!
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Video chat is available for GTalk, and video chat with your GMail contacts, and same with Yahoo Messenger, and Fring works on various networks. These services are less inclined to open up to various networks, and work exclusively in their networks and network partners (ie. GTalk and AIM have a partnership). If you're looking for a video chat API, TokBox provides a developer kit, as well as StickApps, Stickam (ie. StreamAPI) Tinychat, and they are working on a mobile app I believe, yet there are hurdles according to the source. There are other services such as ChatRoulette clones which provide video chat API services as well, which you might want to look into.

When will the FaceTime API be released?
There are no release dates for the FaceTime API, yet Apple has announced that it will open the API to the public.

Not at this time, this is a feature of GTalk.
How about the soon-to-be released Yahoo Messenger API?
Nothing mentioned at this time either, video chat is inside Yahoo Messenger.
How about the fring API?
Nothing to date like this for Fring API.
And when will the FaceTime API be released?
From what Apple said, it would be released shortly thereafter.

Please see the above, and other services you might look into include imo.im, 6rounds, Oovoo, Skype, VSee, Qik, Flixwagon, Ustream, or Livestream. All these have some video streaming, not sure about the APIs.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks! I'm on the verge of marking yours as "best answer", but first I want you to please clarify something.
You say that at the moment the gtalk API does not allow me to develop a gtalk client with 2-way video chat capabilities. This part of the question is the most important to me, so I would like you to please provide a source confirming that the gtalk API does not allow 2-way video chat.
Thank you very much!

Thanks, there is a lot of stuff out there. Qik and Skype provide leading services in 2 Way Video Chat, and the newest innovation for mobile is Knocking Live video chat. GTalk does not offer anything like this, as it's exclusive to the GMail network, as it's not an open system. Google refrains from doing this, as they want GMail users to communicate amongst themselves in a closed system. GTalk has a video client built into its GTalk service already, yet it only works with GMail users. Maybe contact Knocking Live or Qik and see if they have an API, and FaceTime is exclusive to iPhone. Flixwagon has an API as well as Ustream TV, yet not sure if this is what you're looking for. Thwapr also allows you to share videos on your mobile, yet this is not a 2 way chat to my knowledge, yet it's a cool system. There is an open source one called Movino which you might be looking for as well. Some others to check out would include Kyte, Bambuser, Livecast, Boostcam, Molv, etc. There are a lot of 2 Way Video Chat sites and services.
