Is tourism high in Austin during spring months?

Hey the valley
Tourism is rarely an issue in Austin outside of the South by Southwest music and film festival in the Spring and the Austin City Limits Music Festival in the Fall. Visit http://sxsw.com/ to get the dates for this years festival. You're going to want to avoid that because it's one of the largest festivals of its kind in the world drawing tens of thousands of people to the city every year and virtually closing off much of downtown to traffic for the sake of everyone walking from venue to venue. The rest of the time, Austin is a pretty laid back town that, in itself, is not really a tourist draw.
For your elderly parents, I recommend a day trip or two to the Alamo in San Antonio, to Fredricksburg (a favorite of my parents), and the LBJ ranch in Johnson City. You can hit the LBJ ranch and Fredricksburg in the same day without making it too much of a hassle.
Visit http://www.fredericksburg-texas.com/ for details about the beautiful city of Fredricksburg. Also visit http://www.nps.gov/lyjo/index.htm for information about the LBJ Ranch tour. In Austin, you'll also want to visit the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum http://www.thestoryoftexas.com/ and the LBJ library and museum on the campus of the University of Texas.
