Is there still a high demand for Registered Nurses?

When I was going to college there was an extremely high demand for registered nurses. Many of the hospitals were even having large sign on bonuses, along with paying for part of the schooling.

Is the demand for registered nurses still high, or has the demand for them become lower in the recent years? Is this a good field to enter into? Can one expect to get help with schooling with some medical facilities?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

From a post written by the Washington post on Sunday, April 5, 2009, it seems like the demand for Registered Nurses is not on the high any more due to the recession.

According to the post, many nurses have postponed their retirement and have also resumed their career because of lack of finance, but to their greatest surprise there are only few offers available.

Months after the recession began, only acute-care and emergency-room nurses were in great demand, but at this time there are no longer spaces available.

The recession has really slowed down the demand for registered nurses, and the nurses hope that things would return to normal soon.

The economic downturn has put a Band-Aid on one of the most vexing problems in health care, a shortage of nurses that has slowed care at some hospitals and forced others to turn away the ill.
With some nurses postponing retirement and others resuming their careers for financial reasons, many hospitals across the region and the nation say they have few, if any, openings.

There is a huge demand for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and the salary is quite high. The demand is not expected to go down over the next 20 years.
