Is there some level of pride in being a mistress?

I know this is a strange question, but it looks like Rachel Uchitel seems to think so.

Taking private and intimate time away from a couple, warranted or not is no reason to be proud. I can't possibly imagine why anyone who has to sneak around to be with someone would think that there is pride in that.

I can tell you where the pride would be. It would be within a woman who values herself enough to only accept someone who can give all of themselves to her. Having pride shows that you are willing to wait, and refuse to settle. I see mistresses as a bought people, they are given trinkets of affection from jewelry to homes, just for their affection. First, if a man is worth anything, he doesn't have to pay for the affection. Second, if the mistress is worth anything she would not allow herself to be bought.

Selfish, shameful, shallow, and stupid...those are words I may use to describe a mistress, but not pride.

Misguided people take pride in any number of odd things -- such as prowess at pickpocketing skill, or being the mistress of someone famous. I remember about five years ago when what's her name was Ellen DeGeneres's girlfriend, she commented that she wanted to use her position to benefit people. Her head was all swollen with being in the news and on talk shows for dating Ellen. Howard Stern put her in her place on his show though. "What position?" he asked, "She is licking Ellen DeGeneres!" Perspective, people.

I'm sure many of these women think that they have proven that they are better than the wife, rather than just a cheap tramp who will settle for left overs. They probably believe that if the wife is classy, attractive, socially respected, etc., then as the mistress, if they're getting her husband, that means they are all of the things the wife is and more.

They are, of course, sadly mistaken. A man who will cheat is no catch, and the mistress is probably one in a long line of many who were happy to be the on-call sex toy.

Sad.

Obviously for some there is. Some seem to enjoy the attention and perhaps see their conquest of a certain celebrity like a trophy of some sort.

I've met females in their teens and twenties who prided themselves in being able to "steal" boyfriends away from other females and bragged about it, so I imagine it is sometimes related to that. How sad for any person who needs that to feel good about herself.

Also, some people are just so competitive that they apply it to everything and do not care what damage they cause along the way. I would think it is quite an empty victory in the end, because it is my belief that the path to feeling good and respecting yourself is through doing good things.

Whether it's an affair with someone else's spouse, breaking into a house and stealing material things, trying to make a coworker look bad in front of supervisors, or any other such selfish and hurtful thing, I guess some people get quite a thrill from whatever they think they can get away with in this world.
