Is there sibling rivalry in your family? Or did you just have it when you were growing up and now have grown out of it?

I have 6 siblings.. however 3 are from my dads first marriage, one is my full blood sibling and 2 are from my moms marriages after my parents divorced. As a kid I was in a custidy battle with the one full blood sibling from 4 months old.. to the 4th grade. We bounced back and forth a lot and really i'd say all we had was one another.. so there was no rivalry between us two. My elder siblings from my dads first marriage,, my eldest sister in particular always hated us younger kids. I wouldn't call it a rivalry more a grudge. I've had little interaction with the younger siblings.

Now I simply don't see the siblings that hold a grudge, so no rivalry.

There is no sibling rivalry in my family. However, the fact that I'm an only child might have something to do with this. ;-) I have lots of friends in this situation though. The majority of the time (at least in my experience), things get constructive rather than destructive by the time both kids reach adulthood. At that point, it changes from being about beating the other person to supporting the other person. I think growing out of it is definitely the best scenario.

It's sad but I think it's still happening. I stopped involving myself years ago and I think that made them even madder. We don't talk anymore because they are so angry all the time. I just hug, wave and leave. So even though it's carried over into adulthood, I grew out of it.

I have two siblings. My brother who was 10 years older than me but died at the age of 22 when I was 12 and my sister who is 8 years older than me. They used to tease me a lot when we were kids though. One time, not too long ago, my sister told me about the time that I begged them to tie me up just so they would play with me. I don't remember it but I laugh about it now.

Because of the age differences, there wasn't much of a rivalry between us then and there isn't one now between me and my sister. I often wonder what it would be like to be an adult with my brother now if he would have lived.

My sister and I aren't that close now but we still talk. She lives up the road from me and we chat on the computer sometimes but that is about it. We don't have much in common. She has her life and her friends and I have my life and my friends. But she is there to help me if I need it and I am there for her when she needs something. I am closer to her daughter than her. My niece, who is 13, likes to come and stay with my husband and I every chance she gets.
