Is there really such a thing as quicksand and if so, what do I do if I fall in some of it?

What do you mean 'if there is such a thing'. Ofcourse there is such a thing as quicksand.
I don't have experience in it myself. If you have watched Bear Grylls though, he has said to try to get yourself horizontal, so that you float. Then try to crawl on top, to solid ground. Just think about it in terms of being in water. If you stay vertical and don't move you will sink. If you lay flat you will float.
