Is there really any difference in the taste of French champagne and Spanish cava?
I love French champagne, but not the price! As I live in Spain I am able to buy the Spanish equivalent cava, at very reasonable prices. The wine is made by the same method and the taste is excellent. Is there really much difference between the two except location?

Is there any real difference between the Spanish Cava and French Champagne?..
Yes, but not really. It all comes down to the location it is made. From my research, even if sparkling wine is made exactly using the same ingredients and same exact method as champagne, it can not be called champagne unless it is made at the Champagne region of the country France.
Spanish Cava is really made the same way that champagne is, but it can't be classified as champagne because it is not made there. Again, both are produced and manufactured the same way. I found a great article about this and the method sparkling wine is made at:

Very interesting reading. So please have your Spanish Cava, know that it's the same and save your money!

You can't believe how cheap cava can be here and how good, it's a great, fun drink. I went to the Rondel factory on a tour once and saw it being made and where it was stored in huge corridors with round ceilings. Every now and then a cork would pop out of a bottle, you felt tiddly just from the smell!
