Is there anyway/tools to check whether my Windows XP SP3 is genuine or not without checking throught Microsoft's WGA tool ?

I don't want to get caught by microsoft if my windows version is not genuine :P
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Not really, however, if you are very worried, I would just go ahead and run the tool. Microsoft won't automatically sue you and I don't even think that they will de-activate your Windows installation. Also, if you are installing updates from Windows Update, then you have already run WGA and your copy is in face genuine. If you are not downloading updates from Windows Update, then I recommend that you start, as running your computer without these updates is a huge security risk.

If you run the tool and your install is determined to be illegal, Microsoft automatically assumes that you are the victim (which, unless you pirated Windows yourself, you are) and give you the option to purchase Vista (and a free Windows 7 upgrade) for less than retail pricing.

Also, where did you get your computer from. If you bought it from a legit source or you bought Windows yourself from a legit source, then there is no need to worry, your Windows install is genuine.

Actually if you wanted to check to see if your windows install is genuine you can use MGADiag.exe. This is a great tool used by many IT's in the field

If you go to Control Panel. System, General, it will show whether Windows is registered and the person and serial number it is registered to.
