Is there anything interesting to do/see in Monterey Bay, CA aside from the aquarium?

Specifically in the winter (i.e. in about a week)
Tip for best answer: M$1.00

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Go to Big Sur! It's a bit of a drive (45 mins), but you're close enough. Have a sunset dinner at Nepenthe. Stay at Deetjen's. Check out the hot springs at Esalen (you'll have to look into that a little bit).

Of course, depends on how much time you have and requires a car but don't pass up if you can swing it. Carmel works too if you don't want to head further south to Big Sur.

Quickly scanned this article but looks on target:

The loop through pebble beach isn't bad. There's also some decent food to be had there.

Go the hot sauce shop just round the corner from the aquarium. You can't miss it. Some awesome hot sauce's and the lady that owns the place is so funny. You can try everything before you buy.

There are some local shopping areas and a few nice inns for a weekend getaway. There are also a few other museums and some great eateries too.

As you will be traveling in a car I recommend two side trips: Carmel and 17-mile drive. The coast line is spectacular along this portion of the California coast and can be enjoyed in the likely inclement weather as can time spent walking around Carmel. Carmel is loaded with art galleries and excellent places to eat.

Swing by Tillie Gorts for a slice of moist and delicious vegan orange cake.

I've only been to Monterey once for a day and I went to the aquarium, checked out some shops, bought some saltwater taffy and ate a vegan sandwich and some cake at the aforementioned cafe. Not a bad afternoon.

Well the beach will be freezing so I don't recommend that lol.

Carmel is a really nice place.

There are some really nice restaurants along the streets (Beni Hana!). Lots of walking and Pebble Beach is a must!
