Is there anything else that I can do to rectify my mistake?
My feeling is that new members should be cut some slack and told what the proper etiquette is instead of receiving an unhelpful vote. So, i feel that it was I who messed up in this instance.
I certainly do not want to discourage new members. I know that if I had received an unhelpful vote when I just started that I would have been discouraged. There were several instances where that might have occured.
I replied to the member, apologized, and explained to them why I voted unhelpful. Plus I provided the link to the Mahalo Answers Etiquette page.
I still feel bad though...is there anything else that I can do?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

We all make these mistakes and there is no responsible user who will hold a simple mistake against you if you are trying to get better and being a helpful person. We need as many helpful people as we can get!
So my best advice would be to learn for the mistake you made and get better every day. If you would like to see how I started click here to see my first best answer which was just a single word. Although it was voted best one can clearly see the room for improvement.
I was corrected by more than one regular user on just how to answer a question and behave here on Mahalo Answers.
As a very helpful staff member has told me before in a time of insecurity "Don't sweat the small stuff"
You have done everything right so far.

Yes, but you provided the link to your sources which goes a long way to validate your monosylabic answer!
I thank-you, and everyone else, for your their responses!
I do have another example as well. Just this morning I received a direct message from a user who was inquiring as to why my single "no best answer" vote was the one to decide his answer was not good enough.
When I took a look at the answer I was upset and disappointed with myself as I reread his answer. It was good and I had clicked the no best answer button by mistake.
I apologized to the user directly and offered a tip for his unfortunate result of my single vote. I would have been upset as well to see an answer of mine that was good and complete get voted nba by one vote.
I hope this is enough to show the user that I truly did not mean to vote his obviously good answer down.
