Is there any way to get some sort of amnesty with a cell phone provider? (AT&T)
Several months ago, my mom had me put my sisters on my cell plan to avoid a large deposit. I agreed as long as she'd pay the bill until I graduated. She eventually just stopped paying and never informed me, so after about 3 months of non payment, my phone was shut off and I checked to see a $700 bill. I do not have this money and apparently my mother doesn't either, and now I've got a beautiful iPhone with no plan. Is there any way to get AT&T to wipe my record and just let me start from scratch because it might be a while before I have that much to just put down to get reactivated? In addition, my sisters now have a cell plan through their step-dad, so I'd be stuck paying nearly $200 a month and only using my iPhone. Any suggestions?

Call ATT's customer service line and explain the situation. Be calm, be polite, and ask very nicely if there's anything that can be done. They will sometimes work out payment plans, depending on the circumstances. I know that they've done this for me a couple of times. Being calm and polite really helps, because most people, in my experience, are more willing to help you out if you're nice.
You might be able to get a payment arrangement, or you might have to do something else. Either way, I would see if the sales rep could possibly punt everyone else off your plan, because they obviously can't be trusted to hold up their end of the agreement. If they want cell service, they can pay their own deposits or get Go Phones, right?
