Is there any rational reasoning as to why hot dogs are packaged in 10 in a pack and hot dog buns with 8 buns in a package?

If you want to eat all 10 hot dogs in buns, you have to buy two packages of buns. They sell you 75% more bread product, which has a pretty high profit margin.

That would be my guess.

That is my guess, as well.

Maybe that's just the way it was and people continue the tradition without asking why. In here, hot dog and burger buns are sold in five a pack and some hotdogs are packaged in 8 a pack. lol. I agree that it might also be a marketing ploy to make a buyer buy more buns than they need. If it were me, I'll just eat the remaining hot dogs as they are, without the buns.

because hot dogs should be bratwurst and eaten on rolls not hot dog buns? Oh, or maybe it's because you can't get a pack of those cheap hot dog buns without at least one tearing in half.

No honestly I support the marketing ploy theory that causes people to buy two packs of hot dogs to use all of their buns.

I think it's a standard for both industries that do not mesh. Meat packers work in pounds as ten hotdogs is a pound. Therefore if you have a thoudand pounds of meat you have a thousand packages of hotdogs. If you buy the jumbo hotdogs they come eight to a pack as they are a pound. For the bakers side they break down the dozens to three and four for packaging reasons. Eight makes a nice shaped package and easy to pack. I think these standards just go back so many years there is no reason to change. Besides if they went to ten then people would see the higher cost and grab the eight pack and they would lose business. Just a thought.

This is a great question, but unfortunately, I don't have an answer for it. My only guess is that it probably has something to do with shipping. However, sausages will come in packages of different sizes depending on the brand. I've also noticed that there's one brand of larger premium sausage buns that come in packages of 6. Perhaps the next time I'm at the store, I'll see if I can find two brands that pair up properly. If you only want regular hot dogs, I guess this doesn't really help you, but you've now made me interested in seeing what I can figure out.

I suppose the other alternative is just buying the supplies for 40 hot dogs at a time!
