Is there any new research concerning "The Bloop?"
I remember when news of "the bloop" broke back in 1997. The bloop is supposedly a strange sound that was detected in the ocean that scientists believe is a yet to be discovered sea creature of great proportions. My seven year old son has become recently fascinated with sea life, sea monsters, and prehistoric marine creatures. Last night, he was reading about the bloop, and I remembered something about it. We looked up a few things online, but we could not locate any more recent information.
It has been over ten years since the bloop was first discovered. Have we found out anything new about it since then? Are we close to figuring out what creature this belongs to? What are the speculations?
Bonus tip: There was a movie or a television show about this sound. It featured a woman scientist who worked in the ocean. She picked up the sound repeatedly in her home/laboratory and on special equipment, and went out in search of the sound. She had a boyfriend, I think that worked with her, and she had a small son that was perhaps seven or eight. That is about all that I can remember about the movie, except for the fact that the government or some type of organization was trying to quash her research efforts and there was some drama. I have been wracking my brain all night, and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this movie. If you can correctly identify the movie or television show that I am trying to think of, I will tip you an extra dollar.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Surface or The Loch. Surface got cancelled at the end of season 1; made me scream, literally....

There are depths of the ocean we can only begin to 'fathom'. Get it?
Anywho, I have always theorized it to be a member of the order Cetacea(whales) that evolved the necessary adaptations to live in such depths w/o the need to surface for air. The reality is we have no concept of what may live at the very bottom and probably won't know for many years; certainly not in our lifetimes.
The actual depths at which such a creature would inhabit are mind-boggling deep, no light, very little oxygen, utterly terrifying creatures; both big and small. I have a very loooong and very cool pic showing the levels of the ocean that depicts just how deep the ocean can get which I can send to you if you want.
And here's a cool link to show your young'un.
Be sure to save 'Slow Down' for last, way too cool.

Yes, I think it was "Surface" that I was thinking of. There was a movie by the same name back in 2005, and then they introduced the television series a few years ago. I too was watching that show every week, and I was upset over the cancellation of it. For some reason, I kept thinking that the movie had Jodie Foster in it, but I guess I was wrong. I found both the movie and some of the old Surface television episodes online, so I guess that I will have to watch them again.
Thanks! I have sent you a Mahalo dollar for helping me to remember the name of that show.
I can't believe that after over ten years, we don't have any additional research or information. What are your theories?
