I've been in a few hotel rooms in the past year that have independent computers in each room. These computers have never worked very well.
I suspect that between patron abuse, in-room dust, and a variety of other factors that the support and ownership costs of putting a computer in each room (mac or pc) isn't a very good solution.
What I'd look deeply at is a thin client solution with a custom multicast client to play movies on demand.

As someone who travels with kids alot, I look for ethernet in the room, and bring my own router. That way all their devices' settings can stay the same, and they can access whatever media strikes their fancy. Right now we are traveling, and in our suite there are 4 macbooks on, two PSP, one Xbox 360, three iphones, one blackberry, and an eyefi card. We have yet to use the in-room TV(s) for anything other than Xbox.

Agreed. Anything with moving parts is not a bright idea. They wear out too fast, if abused they break too easily. I might think about doing something with a modified Eee Box, buying a small microATX system and using some kind of SSD (CF Cards? Disk-on-Chip? Network boot?) and using that. Don't get me wrong, I love Macs as much as the next guy, but unless you can lock them away behind the walls, and have a maintenance guy clean them out every so often, wrong tool for this job. Even a custom built box will be cheaper too.
