Is there a Windows 7 programming editor for that is either transparent or allows wallpapers? Free is great, but I'm willing to pay.

I am sick of looking at white screens. I want a windows programming editor that allows me to program in a prettier environment. I program in C, C++, Java, PowerShell, HTML (not really programming), PHP, etc. I'd prefer it to be lightweight so that it doesn't try to program for me. Can you help me?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I just had a bit of a look for you. Unfortunately transparency isn't something that is widely advertised as a primary feature. However after a few installs I did find something that I think fits pretty much all of your requirements.

Its simply called Notepad2 (link in source). Its light weight as it is purpose built that way, to be similar to the original notepad. It does syntax highlighting on all of the languages you specified in your question. And finally it has a transparency option. Sure, its not the most powerful transparency option ever created, but it seems to work ok. If you click "Settings" on the menu and choose "Transparent mode" almost half way down, it does simply that. It makes the whole window approximately 50% transparent leaving text relatively visible still over the whitened background. Hopefully this is what you are after.

Edit: And additionally I have just added the link to the list of text editors on wikipedia if you want to have a look yourself.

Srgothard, I did a little research on wallpapers that work while you are programming, and I found a site that lists quite a few different ones. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but it might be a step in the right direction!

Sadly, none of these appear to give me the ability to write a program on a pretty background. I want to be able to type text on a screen that is not a flat color. Picture typing text on top of a picture of the ocean.
