Is there a web service that will update institutions with my new contact information when I move? Banks, DMV, etc.
I'm looking for a one-stop shop where I can give this web service my new contact information like my name, address, and phone number. This web service would then contact the institutions of my choosing--DMV, my banks, etc--and give them my newly updated contact info.
If this doesn't exist, someone should create an open framework (xml-based or something based on standards) that will allow me to update one source and have all my banks, etc. updated. Could even go so far as updating other web sites (woot/amazon come to mind) with my new address and shipping address.
Now that I think about this question, I realize that this is extremely risky because this business would know everything about who I am and where I bank, but gosh darn it, it would be super convenient and if there's a way to accomplish this securely, in the same way that the business cannot see your password but only reset it, I'd be game. I'd even pay.
Thoughts?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Bits and piece of the technology are there. There are social media aggregators that let you update multiple social media accounts with one update.

There is OpenID for creating a single on-line profile for use in accessing multiple sites.

The frameworks are there. The mechanics are there. Now we just need to build the application and get everyone to use it.
It is similar to building the global electronic medical records access/integration.

M$Identity theft is rampant on the internet, as we all know. Having a central service take care of your address changes would just be begging for someone to poke in there and create havoc. All it would take is for ONE crack at the central database, and all would be lost.
Most banks and credit cards will not accept online changes without real-world verification. Utility companies are starting to do the same.
If you want something for updating your ONLINE address books and such (ie. secondary issue websites that do not deal with your money too much) Open Authentication would be needed. That is already in place with some websites - but not all - and is mainly used now for authenticating one online account with another online account (such as mahalo.com and twitter.com).
The tech is under development and in use already to varying degrees - but is the world ready to rely that much on computers for their real-life needs? Could Middle America trust the internet enough to manage their addresses, phone numbers and registrations? Will an EMP generated by a solar flare knock out all computers?
You get the drift...

M$Right. I wouldn't want to give this site my bank's username and password. I just want a magical way for banks and everyone else to get the memo. It could be tough because contact information for these entities change all the time, but I think there should be an open framework that allows one-way communication between the service and the entity, allowing the update to occur. Thanks for the comment.
let's up the ante on the question to see if anyone already knows an answer :) I marked it interesting - since i'll be moving soon too. lol
because if ur email is hacked bank will not allow hacker to change ur address to their address and then again back to ur address after doing shopping etc.

Yeah, I hear ya. In the same way that Google Voice lets you call one number to ring all your phones, I'd like a site/service that lets me update my address one time and have it forward that info to all my contacts/businesses.
