Is there a way to see this concert at Churchill Downs for less?

Nearly ever band that I would ever want to see is going to be in one location in July - and a day after my birthday at that!!!

Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky) will have over 65 bands during their festival with names like, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Steve Miller Band, Gladys Knight, Jason Aldean, The Doobie Brothers, Al Green,Dwight Yoakam, Michael McDonald, Loretta Lynn, Colbie Caillat, Steppenwolf, The Black Crowes, Kansas, B52s, Gloriana, 38 Special, The O’Jays, War, Richard Marx, Gov’t Mule, Joan Osborne, Musiq Soulchild, Taj Mahal, Sam Bush, Chrisette Michele and many, many more!

I'd simply love for me and my husband to go see this three day musical extravaganza! The only issue is the better tickets are $1400.00 each and on the actual turf. While there are cheaper tickets, I'd rather stay home and play the cd than to go and be so far from the stage that I can't even see the show.

And so, my question is: What's my alternative? Are there contests giving away free tickets? Is there a place to get discount tickets? My husband is military and so if there are military discounts we would qualify. However, I've yet to find an alternative to paying the $1,400.00 and still get great seats. It's all or nothing - great seats or I'd rather stay home.

The money goes to the person who can come up with the best alternative and only if that alternative is something feasible.

I was a concierge, a manager and a trainer, and a member of the professional concierge association in a major US City for almost 7 years The internet was never a factor in getting tickets--I didn't even have a computer at my desk, just a really, really good Rolodex and a telephone book. I've had the experience of sitting on hold with Ticketmaster many, many times, but that was rare. My clients wanted good seats and within reason, weren't too concerned about price. But if I called my usual suspects and got competing prices, one would usually eventually break and lower their price.

Here's a crash course, with the luxury of everything being online, from seating charts to ticket inventories:.

As for the prices, here's your answer, right from website of one of the brokers I regularly used:
"Why are the tickets on your site listed above face value?
Licensed ticket brokers generally sell their tickets at prices above face value. This price is known as the tickets' "market value." The only place you can purchase tickets at face value is through Ticketmaster or a venue box office. However, it is important to note that these primary sellers often charge additional service fees - creating actual prices that are higher than the amount listed on the face of the ticket. Licensed ticket brokers specialize in obtaining desirable seats for high-demand and sold-out events. We get these tickets from a variety of sources, including season ticket holders and individuals who have extra tickets for events. To obtain these high-demand tickets, brokers pay a premium, or a price often well above face value. They then sell these tickets at the market value. The market value price for a ticket is determined by many factors including seat location, supply and demand, date and location of the event, etc. This means that we sometimes must sell tickets for below face value. Our ultimate goal is to provide our customers with the greatest selection of event tickets at competitive prices."

It's true--if they have season tickets to something and no one has bought the tickets for that day's event, you can usually get them at or below price if you call an hour before the broker closes--after that, they're holding bookmarks with no value. I've gone to plenty of baseball games--perhaps not the best match-ups, but 15th row, right next to3rd base--at or below face. THAT'S when you can bargain--when they're stuck with a ticket in hand, although for your music festival I would imagine every ticket would be sucked up. Expect ALL broker prices to go up. Someone will pay the price. Streisand was so good to the concierge community...our clients were happy and they always let us know with a thank-you or several..

if the tickets are coming 're from a big broker who advertises nationally, they'll be legit. I'd have have picked the lowest price. Coast to Coast looks reasonable--you have to remember that if YOU don't pay that price, someone else might. $1452.00 is nothing for a busy exec and their assistant, who don't have time to sit on the phone to try to get through to Ticketmaster.

At that point, if you really want to feel the sweat of the musicians, it would make sense to go to sec. T4 row D.. It's dead center, 4th row. But if you want to get the same experience with a littleeconomy thrown in, I think you forgot about what Coast to Coast had in the middle of the page: Section: T4, Row: F, $990.00 ea., 2 avail. (Three-Day Pass-6th row Center) Same section, only two rows further back--and $452 per ticket cheaper than your $1400 seats.

You might want to assess how big the place is--for example at Ford's Theater in DC, there's the lower and there's the upper, and they're all just about the same. Higher up might be better if it's not that far--you're at stage level.

That the broker can give the exact location may mean they already have those tickets in their safe--the others have to wait for.them.

You have to remember that the T3 could be as good as the T4 depending on a few things, including how wide the row is and where the seat is--if it's two seats in from the aisle separating T3 and T4, you're splitting hairs at that point, I think And it says "Available," so they might already have them in their safe..

Cincinnati is the net closest city with any large population I sometimes had to use ticket brokers in other cities--on complete blind faith, knowing nothing about them but a phone number) because they would have better access by virtue of location.

I just looked online--another broker I used to work with, who advertises nationally, whose office I've been to many times, has T5, Row A online for $2500!

TIP: If you have to actually call a broker, just say simply "Hi, this is Suzy from the concierge desk." You'll get a warmer response. Try it for restaurant reservations, too.) If they ask where (say you're the concierge and it means you're sending them business--they likely won't ask), say you're at the so-and-so building. May I suggest you use something nondescript --"The Stephen Building"---and not use the name of a well-known building If you're paying by credit card and having the tickets mailed to you, "The client wants them mailed to his home."

I just checked Ticketmaster and they are showing VIP seats for all three days available for a SUBTOTAL amount of US $1,990.20 for two tickets. There is also a ticketing delivery fee in addition to this amount. I also checked Ticket Liquidator and they are also showing seats available. You could also buy individual day seats focusing on getting the best tickets for the day when your absolute favorites are playing at a higher price and take lower priced tickets for the other days. Another place you can check is Stubhub.

I found this while searching for tickets:

This is a good answer, but it's really not what I'm looking for.

I want the tickets that I indicated for less money. Places like ebay and craigslist tend to scare me because of all the massive scams.

Concerts that are in high demand usually are hard to come by for less. To ask for a concert seat that is great with a great price is also rare, unless you know some promoters of the concert, or if you are involved with the company. Even then, it's still hard to get amazing seats for less.

One idea (no guarantees) would be to talk to call your local radio station and ask they have any promotions for these tickets, or if they have any contests. Sometimes they have contests.

How about bartering for the tickets? Do something for someone in exchange for the tickets. Ask the ticket broker if you can help them out in some way. Possibly you can sell them some tickets, and then once you sell them tickets, they will offer you a fabulous deal on the tickets!

I like the idea of talking to local radio stations and the possibility of bartering in exchange for tickets. However, that possibility is something I've looked into with no luck at all!

Still, this isn't exactly what I'm looking for.

The idea is to get the tickets I want for much less.

You got me thinking about money matters and leisure, and I couldn't resist not asking this question:

It seems like you have a lot of money and probably have gotten sick of traveling to exotic places, but if that's actually not the case, I recommend that you consider traveling to another country instead.

I think you can find a 500 dollar ticket to Europe, for example. It's very easy to move about there, especially in Western Europe. I think there's less creepy people (than there are in America), and people are usually willing to help. Hostels or bed and breakfast's are everywhere. Hostels suffer from a bad reputation because of the Hostel flick, but there are people with no financial worries that prefer to stay in hostels. And Europe has a vibrant backpacking culture that almost routinely makes a $1000 dream European vacation possible.

I agree that $1000 to see most of my favorite bands up close is definitely worth it. I used to go to concerts a lot even though I would *always* buy the cheapest ticket. My first concert was an MTV Alternative Nation Tour and I paid $10 for general admission. It featured Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys and Foo Fighters. I stumbled upon a friendly event employee, and I managed to sneak in into the mosh pit. I didn't think it was possible, but I did the same for Cranberries, Corrs, Rage Against the Machine, Bush, Silverchair, Cardigans, Alanis Morrisette, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, and Katy Perry. I also did it in Central Michigan's Lizard Fair and Southern California's Jingle Ball. I don't think I've ever paid more than $25 on a concert ticket, and I usually get to the most expensive section. Anyway, if I had $1200, I would just use it to go to Europe. I'd find a $500 plane ticket and just backpack. It's still just incredible to me that many people don't mind paying over 50 dollars on a concert, but I've never been to a music festival that lasted over one day and featured that many artists. And you're actually paying for 65 concerts, so $1300 is not really that expensive.

Have you tried posting on craigslist a "wanted turf tickets guaranteed lowest price" ad?

Try calling a regional ticket broker, http://www.broadrippletickets.com is in Indianapolis, or you could try others. If you find the right broker you can ask them to watch for releases for you, if tickets were to get released you might be able to get them cheaper if they knew you would buy them right away

Plus, general admission isn't what I'm looking for. I'd like the tickets indicated in the question for a much lower than advertised price.
