Is there a way to fix an Xbox 360 with red light errors?

My Xbox 360 stopped working completely. When I try to power it up, there are three red lights on the power button that are blinking. It won't do anything at all. I have seen on Craigslist that there are some people who want these Xbox 360s, so I am thinking that there must be a way to fix it. Is there anything that I can do to get my Xbox 360 working again? If not, would this still be under warranty? Could I send it in to Microsoft and let them fix it or replace it? My console is the Xbox 360 Halo Special Edition Console, and I have had it for almost three years.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Call Microsoft. Consoles are under warranty for 3 years for the 3 red light error. Any other valid fixes require opening the console and voiding the warranty! (there are other claims like wrapping a towel around it,etc, don't do that overheating your console further will only damage it.)

Yeah, this is a very well known issue with 360s, and MS takes care of them almost without question these days. My console died a few months back, and I had a new unit in my hands within a week.

When my friends xbox got the lights, it would not work what-so-ever, so he wrapped it in a towel and got it to work for a couple months more before it would not work at all.

This is usually refered to as the "Red Ring of Death" (RRD) and microsoft usually fixes them for free, each ring section means something different is wrong with the X box usually your harddrive is fried. and if they fix it you lose all your data on the hard drive

go to http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/kb.aspx?ID=907534
this is Mircosofts support on your problem, and if you cant find your answer here call Toll free: (800) 4MY-XBOX or (800) 469-9269
(this is microfots support line) i hope this helps

The exact same thing happened to my sons Xbox 360. They had us return it, if I am not mistaken they paid for shipping and it was fixed and returned to us very quickly. We had to pay absolutely nothing. I read some other answers here and we were not required to wrap it in a towel. I have not heard of that personally. Microsoft made it very simple and pain free. I was just checking the Xbox 360 site to get you a phone number and they now have you troubleshoot at home first. They display the exact problem you have mentioned. I have included the direct link below. Hopefully now there is an even quicker solution! Maybe you will be able to fix it from home.

Thanks Gina!

I did troubleshoot it according to the Microsoft Xbox 360 site, and none of those things helped at all. After that, it had me log in with my Xbox Live account, and enter my console serial number. Instructions were provided for sending the console in for repairs. It was unclear whether they were actually going to repair it or replace it, but I am sending it off today. Hopefully, I will have something back soon.

Also, for anyone else that may be wondering, the warranty on the Xbox 360 for other red light errors is still only one year. This is fi you have a one red light, two red light, or four red light error. The three red light error is considered a problem with the hard drive, and Microsoft has extended the warranty for this up to three years from the date of purchase. Fortunately for me, I was still just within that window, as I would have owned my Xbox 360 Special Edition Halo 3 console exactly three years in November.
