Is there a way of installing windows XP to a mac without a CD? My MBP optical drive is busted.
Thanks
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Option:
1. You can attach an external optical drive via USB or Firewire. Once the MBP recognizes the CD install XP from there. (sure to work)
2. (should work but never tried yet) If you have another Mac around with a working optical drive. Enable "DVD/CD Filesharing" on both computers. You would need an Ethernet Cable to connect 2 Macs directly via the ethernet jack - or - thru a network Ethernet Hub or Switch.
a. Go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> (check) DVD or CD Sharing
b. On the MBP desktop click on "Hard Drive." The left hand side the other Macintosh would be appearing under "Servers"
c. Click on the specific name of the Mac "Server" to connect (enter password if security settings are enabled) and you should be able to access the Windows XP CD and install from there.
