Is there a way I can convert my DVDs into MP4 files or similar so I can put them on my ipod?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$Most commercial DVDs are encrypted, and products like the above mentioned Handbrake (a wonderful bit of software, I'll add) require an unencrypted data source. There are programs you can use to decrypt commercial DVDs but the legality of doing so is still being fought over in the courts of many nations, including the US, typically under the "Fair Use" doctrine which can be exemplified in our own Copyright Law.
