Is there a way for the average person to participate in the Windows 7 beta?

Will they allow non press or developers the opportunity to attend their launch events or participate in their upcoming beta? Legally =)
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The Windows 7 Public Beta will be available sometime early 2009. Keep in mind that while Windows 7 is based on Vista, there is always driver issues to be worried about when running a Beta version of an operating system. It's highly advised not to use a beta OS on a production or working OS drive, but rather to install a fresh blank hard drive for the OS to use.

The best way to get into a microsoft beta is to attend one of their pre-launch events for the product. See the below link.
http://www.msdndevcon.com/Pages/start.aspx Anyone can register and attend these with no restrictions. My wife came with me last year because she wanted the free copy of Office 2007 professional they were giving away...lol.

You could always request an invite here:

http://connect.microsoft.com/

No guarantee that they'll accept you, but it's worth a shot.

The only way for a non credentialed person to participate in the Windows 7 beta is to be a member of the Windows Feedback Program (WFP). Enrollment in WEP was suspended in January 2008. You can email winpanel@microsoft.com to notified when enrollment is reopened.

The Windows 7 Public beta, which is available for anyone to download, is expected to be release sometime in the second quarter of 2009.
