Yes, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is an original of Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Lawrence Edwards has been directing its performances ever since. He finished at the Seattle Pacific University with a degree in Music. For his graduate and doctorate degrees, he accomplished these at the University of Illinois at Champaign. Besides being involved with the MSO, he is also the Coordinator of Choirs at the University of Memphis Music Department.
University students are his audience for choral conducting. During the summer, he is found at Villanova University in Philadelphia for teaching graduate students. Its musicians are plenty for playing the violin, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, viola, cello, contrabassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, flute, tuba, timpani, percussion, harp, flute, piccolo, and piano. The Music Director is Mei-Ann Chen.
