You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

No. Mermaids (half person half fish) are not real. Upon investigation this was proven to be a hoax.

In 2005 a similar hoax was perpetrated in China after the Indian Ocean Tsunami.

The "Feejee Mermaid" was made famous by P.T. Barnum (of Barnum & Bailey Circus).

Sailors used to see Sea Cows sunning themselves on the rocks in the distance and wonder after them, calling them mermaids.

But the closest, as humans, we come to realizing the myth comes from a disease Sirenomelia (aka the mermaid syndrome) where the fetus forming in the womb results in the fusing of the legs.

But that's as far as it goes. No gills, no fish and human mating can occur. Don't be afraid to cast your nets. There is no such thing as the mermaid of legend.
