Is there a numbing medicine at dentist that is short term 30 min to 1 hour?
I hate being numb and went to a dentist years ago who said he would give me (something) and the numbness would wear off in about 30 min to 1 hour. Sure enough it did. My dentist now numbs me and it is 5 hours before it goes away. I hate this.

Topical anesthetics and temporary anesthetics like Lidocane, benzocaine are the most commonly injected and applied numbing agents.
A way to make it dissipate faster is by buffering with some epinephrine.
It makes it work quicker, but it also wears off quicker. One reason that some dentists prefer the longer acting is they can take their time and do the work that is needed without rushing. As we all know rushing can cause problems.
You do have an option. All doctors have to keep immaculate records of what was used. Contact that dentist and have him look up in his records what he used and we used it for. Lidocaine is the one of the oldest and by nature has a duration of about 90 minutes or so.
