Is there a neuron cell that is responsible for emotions? What will it mean to have artificial emotion applications for the iPad?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Not one , there are three . sensory , motor , inter neurons . haha .. iam just kidding . and its little bit true also .
there are no single neuron that is responsible for emotions . if you want to find out physical location of emotions. then i would say you can not find . its quite distributed on cortex . there are some evidence suggesting that left side of face is expresses more emotions than right side . may be vice versa . so right side of the brain mostly processes emotions .emotions are quite complex to understand wholly on physiological basis or finding it on single neuron .
I see no relation to i-pad artificial emotion application . for 500$ one cant sell in-built MRI. mostly the application you are referring to might be software based , probably calculating emotions using images it receiving through webcam . as IPAD doesn't carry any DSP i can say what ever the artifical emotion its showing its not even processing in real time .

our brain process data parallel , where as many of today's computer still process data serially . IPAD is no where near to those parallel processing speeds .

Okay what you are saying is cortex not a single neuron cell . emotions doesnt exist in single cell .
yes there might be some relation between Scans and emotions . But i cant understand how they are related to I PAD ? how can a simple ipad can process such complex systems ?.

Consciousness is the ability to abstract images and models of reality

Einstein had images in his mind that modeled how relativity worked

Mathematics became the language describing his mental models

for example riding on a be of light or curvature of space time due to gravity

We cant say whats going to happen in future . may be one day these gadgets may even capture our dreams and thoughts . but i'm sure that day there wont be any i pad

If emotion neurons exist then their algorithms and math can be determined and simulated. Eventually the simulations will prove reliable and the software applications will use the emotion feedback system to measure user interest.

The machine can learn: Is the user anger, excited, depressed, or happy. Perhaps, the machine could display information based on the emotional feedback in the system. How would emotions help a machine learn and recognize pattern?

Can a machine dream?

Can a machine see the future? (Asimov iRobot series)

Can a machine feel? Of course not. A machine is no more conscious than a rock in your garden. However, it may be possible to simulate emotion. If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and walks like a duck. Is it a duck? The future offers many possibilities.

Machines will need to learn through abstraction. Emotion is an important element to creativity and abstraction, if artificial abstraction is possible.

Many scientist say that emotion is not linked to a neuron cells type, but that can not be true. It seems possible to analyze the MRI brain activity and watch which cells in the brain become more active when expose to the emotion of love or fear. For example, the amygdala has a very fast edge detection neural network. The reaction to the edge detection is flight or fight. (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/06/040610081107.htm)

Emotions and Memory: We need emotions to tell us, if a memory association is familar or not familar. If we didn't have emotion we couldn't tell that an associate was a friend or a woman was your wife. Emotions keeps us rational.

The Amygdala is responsible for different emotional states. The brain traverse through different emotional states and moving through possible branching and selection of the graph. We observe this behavior and say the person is thinking. (http://www.benbest.com/science/anatmind/anatmd9.html)

Visual Cortex:

Quote
The lateral nucleus receives highly processed visual (recognition) information from the TE region of the temporal cortex. This information is projected into the magnocellular basal nucleus of the amygdala, which returns project- ions to every level of the visual information-processing hierarchy of the temporal & occipital cortex. Recordings of individual neurons in the amygdala have found neurons that respond specifically to auditory, taste, smell or somatosensory as well as visual stimuli, but the visual neurons are the most plentiful. Some amygdala neurons respond primarily to faces

If you are just talking about reading . then there are several robots which can read human emotion . even if they come from algorithms there are several other things one need to consider . what if some one is faking smile . just counting number of wrinkles on his face isnt enough , you need to know the context of the situation , personality of subject in from of it , environment.... there are too many . needs not only computing but consciousness .

Some think there is a neuron type of cell that causes the chemical and electrical signals associated with emotion.

Moores law suggests that computations doubles every 18 months. Exponential computation is rapidly approaching super computing power.

Handheld computation power is double at twice the rate as workstation computers. Imagination will be the limit over the next 60 years.
