There are many types of "blood cancer", and so the answer to your question varies according to which type you are talking about. Therefore:
1. Acute leukaemia is the disorder you will generally be talking about when you say blood cancer: There are 2 types of acute leukaemia , acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Both of these are potentially curable with standard chemotherapy protocols. ALL is more common than AML in children and has quite a high cure rate (>80%: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/990113-overview). In adults, ALL is a more difficult disease to treat with cure rates more like 20-40% (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/207631-overview). AML is more common in adults and has a cure rate 25-30% with standard chemotherapy (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/197802-overview). As mentioned in other posts, haemopoietic stem cell transplantation is a therapeutic option in patients with AML or ALL who have poor prognosis disease, or whom have relapsed after standard chemotherapy.
2. Chronic leukaemias. Chronic Myeloid leukaemia was thought to be only curable by stem cell transplantation, however the advent of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, especially imatinib (which is given as an oral tablet) has probably changed that http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/199425-overview). Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia is usually not considered curable, but in most patients this is not a serious disorder and often does not even need treatment (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/199313-overview).
3. Lymphomas. This describes a large number of disorders, some of which are curable with chemotherapy +/- transplantation. Burkitt's and lymphoblastic lymphoma are very similar to ALL and are serious diseases but can be cured in some patients with chemotherapy.
4. Others. e.g Hairy Cell Leukaemia is a more indolent disorder and treatment is highly effective, and potentially curable (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/200580-overview)

Bone marrow transplantation may be considered for those patients who are less than 45 years of age and who have an aggressive form of the disease.
Chemotheraphy is usually given in the form of tablets (usually a medicine called chlorambucil (Leukeran)). Other chemotherapy drugs such as fludarabine (Fludara) (may be used in late stage disease. General bone marrow production of blood cells can occur in more advanced CLL (bone marrow failure) in which steroid treatment with prednisolone (eg Deltacortril) usually allows the bone marrow to recover. Milder degrees of bone marrow failure might adequately be controlled by periodic blood transfusion.
