Is there a connection between Sadr City and Moqtada Al Sadr?

Al Sadr is a shiite militia commander in Sadr City, so I was wondering is Sadr City named after him?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

No, this suburban district of Baghdad was unofficially renamed Sadr City after deceased shiite leader Mohammad Mohammad Sadeq al-Sadr after the foreign occupation of Baghdad in April 2003.
