Is there a color-safe shampoo that actually cleans well?

I used to use Trader Joe's Herbal Shampoo, which never stripped the color from my hair. They discontinued it this summer, and now I can't seem to find something that will both clean my hair and leave the color alone. Which is fine when I decide blue stripes need to go, but not so hot when I find something I like. I've tried their Spa, which leaves it feeling and looking greasy, to the point where by the time it dries it already looks greasy. I've tried Fructis with the same results. Herbal Essence is about the same.

Trader Joe's Orange Refresh strips the color, but it does clean well. Any ideas?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I like Redken Color Extend shampoo. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. You can buy it at Ulta, and some grocery stores and drug stores sell it as well.

How does it clean? My biggest problem is that all the kinds I've tried leave my hair looking greasy.

I would have to suggest Aveda's Color Conserve. While their products are not cheap, I have used this particular shampoo for years and my color has remained perfect up to 12 weeks. It is highlighted rather than an all over color which allows me to go for so long.

You know how you sometimes need to switch products because what you have been using does not seem to do the trick anymore? This is not the case with Aveda.

Products are available at Aveda concept salons and in Aveda stores at some malls.

I recommend Shielo's Color Protect Shampoo & Conditioner. I've tried many brands including a lot of other "salon" brands like Paul Mitchell, Nexxus, and this Redken Color Extend... I tend to get easily annoyed when I can't sleep on my hair at all without waking up feeling like my hair looks like a grease ball. I'm guessing my scalp just produces a little more than average oil. My hair is also thick and wavy and I like to straighten it.

Having compared closely with other brands, my hair always feels better with the Shielo Color Protect, shampoo and conditioner, and has a very smooth texture which takes to my flat iron very well. I was apprehensive about the cost, however, alittle goes a long way! I've had the bottle for 40 days now, and I still have some left. My other shampoos are done in a month.

I love the Shielo Color Protect - both shampoo and conditioner - but it's usually way too expensive in the salon. Love that I can get a great price on it AND have free shipping ordering at their website online. Best shampoo I have used to preserve my color job.

I highly recommend it if you spent alot of money coloring your hair, and now want to keep that color as long as possible!

Thanks for giving me another option! You know how jmcmaster remarked that sometimes you have to switch shampoos after awhile? I'm at that point.

The Body Shop makes an excellent shampoo, and I've used it for a few years now, it cleans well, too. Check out the Bilberry Color Protect Shampoo.

The Body Shop Bilberry Color Protect
http://bit.ly/tiCQ

Best if you want to: Keep your color vibrant and shiny with a daily shampoo that has UV filters and antioxidants to prevent fading.

Best for: color-treated hair

How it works:
Antioxidant bilberry extract helps to protect hair from environmental aggressors.

Community Trade organic soy oil smoothes and conditions hair. Antioxidant sunflower seed extract helps resist color fade, maximizes shine and neutralize damaging free radicals.
