Is there a collection of Russian recipes I can try?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I am Russian and I have to say I approve of this site.
http://www.ruscuisine.com/
The food here is the real deal and they will provide you with a little bit of history as well as recipe to some great food. They have anything from drinks and desserts to pastas and soups, which are most important because we are a cold country.
This site even has a section where there are articles about Russian traditions and some places you can visit. This part of this site should keep you entertained for hours, it did for me. You can enjoy reading some articles that will answer many questions you may have about the culture and then afterwards you may choose a recipe and dive into the authentic experience.
Lastly they will offer you links where you may do some shopping for traditional Russian clothes, cooking supplies, scarves, and tablecloths. It should be your one stop shop to get a little taste of everything, literally.
As for Russian cookbooks I recommend looking at Amazon, they have many options, for instance this one.
http://www.amazon.com/Russian-Cuisine-Exclusive-Prime-Time-Recipes/dp/0595333656
Also here’s a review from About.com of 10 great Russian cookbooks. Maybe after reading a little about them you might consider one of the books mentioned. Have fun exploring!
