Is there a car (or SUV) that has a Bluray player as part of its rear-seat entertainment system?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

No. Not yet.

However, there are many in-car entertainment systems that have AUX inputs. Most cars with in-car entertainment systems have video and audio inputs. If not, there is often an option (Infinity upsells these) to add an AUX input in the trunk.

Personally, I would fill one of these with movies / tv / whatever and connect it to an AUX input extended to the trunk:

A simple IR extender would take care of the controls.

Otherwise, if you really want HD on the small in-car screen, connect up a standard BluRay player (or hey, maybe a PS3) and watch away.

Update:

Engadget reports that Panasonic is going to be first on the block with a portable Bluray player: http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/08/panasonic-makes-it-official-profile-2-0-dmp-b15-portable-blu-ra/

It's not as refined as an integrated in-car entertainment system but it might be the best truly mobile bluray that we'll see for at least a year.

Mitsubishi has created a Blu-ray player for car dashboards. The prototype is the smallest Blu-ray player ever demonstrated. The player should hit the market in about one year as part of a new HD car entertainment system. Also Panasonic is working on a similar Blue-ray setup for car dashboards.
As of right now there are no cars that have a Blue-ray option unless you were to have something custom assembled.
