Most of us have grown up with the idea that the Grand Canyon is the largest Canyon in the world. The Grand Canyon of the Colorado River has a depth of 2,682m and a length of 440 km. It is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
However in1994, the American Geography Committee and the Guinness Book of World Records stated that the "world's largest canyon" is the Great Canyon of Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River in Himalaya Mountains of Tibet. It has a depth of 5,382m and it has a total length of 496.3km.
Very little information about this canyon is available to the world because very few people have reached that remote region in Tibet. In some regions near the canyon foreigners are forbidden access. There are many other large canyons in the world but none that are measured as being deeper or longer then these two canyons.
