Is the world really going to end in 2012

i heard from like 10 people that it really is going to end on 2012

There are a few problems with that. One, the world is not going to end. and two it is not believed to end "on 2012" but on December 21, 2012 at 11:11 a.m (UTC).This is all derived from the Mayan calender ending on that date. the Mayans were using two calenders at one point, a 365 day calender and a 260 day calender, one had to end. The misconception is that the Mayans are predicting the apocalypse on that date, but that is not the case. Their calender just simply ends. there is not mention of the apocalypse on that day from the mayan scripture. it just had to end, out with the old in with the new.

For those that are lost with the 2012 apocalypse thing, you should listen to astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson on the subject.

If you have a calendar hanging in your kitchen, and it only goes to December, would you LOGICALLY believe that means the world will end with your calendar?? Come on now.
