The "War on Terror" is simply the most recent "war" in the string of unnecessary, unwinnable wars that the US military-industrial complex needs to keep the US economy on a war footing, and to keep the populace compliant and docile while the rich get richer and the rest of us stagnate or decline. In other words, it keeps the peasants from revolting.
There was the Cold War, the War on Crime, the War on Drugs, and now the War on Terror(ism).
Notice how none of these can actually be won.
