Is the sun, God in disquise?

I would like to see how you can complement scientifical and religious points of view when answering this question.

I do not go into detail citing sources and debating when it comes to spirituality, in particular my own. I will say that your question, if it is genuine, demonstrates enlightenment. I can not direct you to further study on this, because I think your journey is one that is meant to be self-directed.

I will give you some of my own thoughts, however, and provide you with a link to a book you might find interesting. Whether or not the book addresses your question, only you should determine.

The sun has been worshiped throughout history under different names. From scanning the above answers, you will find more than enough resources to determine that. Sun worship continues, to this day, though it's adorations are veiled, by most... There is a secret behind religion... and that secret's clue is the common origin of religious mythology. There is always an inner order and an outer order. To everything.

A user above mentioned the Sun is a star. They are correct. Contemplate the relationship of Sol to Astrum, sun to star. There's a mystery there. On a deeper level, consider our relationship to the sun. What is the sun? What are we? What elements do we share?

I will leave you with these thoughts, and a video of Sun adoration, of the direct type... something you will not often find, and something which is not often shared.

Well that very much depends on your religion. Most religions started off worshipping everyday things, the sun was the most common because the sun was the largest and brightest thing early people could see. They imagined it being the eye of God. The Sun God Ra was one of those gods. The people would create stories of the Sun God, riding his chariot of fire across the heavens. As the mind of man evolved, new thoughts began to take hold and they needed to know with certainty what exactly that big glowing orb was. For some had decided that perhaps it wasn't God, but like the moon, just another satellite, circling the earth. With the invention of telescopes, man could truly see the sun for what it was, a whirling ball of exploding hydrogen and helium and numerous heavy metals that did not circle us, but that we circled. Some cultures still see the Sun as their deity, so it very much depends on your religion. Personally, the sun is what keeps our Earth, and everything on it alive, but it is not God.

No, in Genesis, it says that God created the sun, so unless He created himself, that is not possible.

Well, you are on point, if I may say. This brings up Horus to my memory, (Amen-ra) (Egyptian God) -- note the Amen part... You can see the movie Zeitgeist while reading on it's transcript. It's first (religious) part is completely transcribed and sourced from many books. (http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/transcript.htm)

Precession of the Equinoxes: (We are in the age of Pisces right now)

But it's highly likely that you have already seen that film. But if you haven't, it would be better if I didn't just re-write everything the movie said.

The Sun is a star, an inanimate object.

There are no externalities. What that means is there is nothing outside the universe. I can provide the proof, but a simple form is that if you can think up an externality, I can think up a box to put it in and thus it can't be external.

That means there can be no 'god'. See? I'm an atheist.

Now, for the scientific part: the sun is a huge ball of gasses and metals, mostly in the plasma state. We are understanding ever more about the sun as time goes on. It's nothing more than one gigantic controlled explosion.
