Is the recession easing in your city?

Once a month, I goto lunch at my favorite BBQ restaurant in Frisco Tx. (Suburb of Dallas) It is fairly large, seats maybe 200+. The past few months it has been depressing. It has been no more than one fourth full and I walked right to the register to order.

Today it was almost packed. at least 75% of the seats were full and there were at least a dozen people in line ahead of me and I had trouble finding a parking place.

How are things in your area?

I live in the foothills in Northern California, is a small town where jobs have always been few and far between... and now with the economy the way it is it is worse then ever. Business that have been here for decades are closing their doors... We have lost at least 4 car dealerships. You don't go a day without talking to someone who just lost their job or their house is in foreclosure. In times like this the economy hits small town America sooooo much worse then metropoliton areas. Because our economies are on a good day, questionable. I don't see things getting better here any time soon. We may get to a point where we are a Ghost town... sounds dramatic but people are leaving there are no places to work and houses aren't selling. Things sure aren't looking any better here.

I think it has gotten worse here in Lebanon NH. but we really had no impact until now. We were lucky and didn't feel the effects before, but housing prices are starting to drop now and unemployment is going up. We are one of the most recession proof areas in the country, but it has hit here now. Hopefully we are a lagging indicator and things are on the way up!

Home sales have picked up a little bit in Southern California, and I noticed that in the North County Times the job ad have increased, back in November there was practically nothing in there. it does not seem like it is going to get worse here. there is the potential of more commercial defaults and the state budget Crises , but other than that I see it getting better.

Here in eastern North Carolina, if anything it's getting worse. People can't get mortgages for home purchases even if their credit is good. This has paralyzed the building, mortgage & real estate businesses in our area. All the focus in the news recently is on the big corps...BofA, Goldman, Citi and the like. What do we care when we're slowly all going out of business! The struggle here in "grass roots America" is where the energies of Washington should be focused. Some things never change!

In Chicago? Nope, Unemployment is extremely high and they almost just passed a bill that would have increased taxes loads.

Oh, and we have 10.25% sales tax that has no intention of dropping.... to give you an idea... I believe that's the highest sales tax in the country!

We will only be saved if we win the bid for the 2016 Olympics!!! GO Chicago!!!

Absolutely Not !! I just finished reading an article that says that Michigan hit an all time high for unemployment in 25 years. Making our unemployment rate sitting at a wopping 16.5 %. Unreal because I really do not know what the government expects people in our state to do. Even part time positions are becoming obsolete here. People are grabbing and grasping at whatever job they can find for survival. plus the state is broke as most of its people. So sad and stressful here !! I have had to cancel 2 doctors appointments in the last two weeks for I just can not make things meet at 21 hours a week at my job.

Where i came from recession is presently getting worst, all we have to be is become more realistic to see that situation is bad, unemployment is rising, food prices are becoming more expensive, company are closing except some who are recapitalizing, homelessness is growing, to sum up recession is not easing.
This does not mean that well just wait until recession improved. We need to look at the fact truthfully and do something about how we can ease our own personal recession.
