Is the recent recession over?

I am just curious about what the public media has to say about the so called recovery we are starting to see.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Yes and No

The question is kind of like asking if a coma patient is getting better. Yes, there might be movement and they are not getting worse but it might be a while before they are up and around.

The recession is very likely over. Keep in mind 'recession' is a technical term meaning a decline in business activity. Just because it ends doesn't mean everything is hunky dory again. It doesn't even mean the economy is growing, it just means it has stopped receding/recessing. There were two recessions during the Great Depression for instance.

While technically the recession may be over, the building industry is still in dire straits. Building is still down 70% from what it was in 2007. Lenders have tightened the screws as it were towards who they can lend to and things are hard pretty much across the board unless you are in the sports or entertainment industry.
As a builder of custom homes, this is the hardest winter I have ever had the displeasure of enduring.
