Is the portrayal of Aspergers syndrome in the TV series ''Parenthood'' accurate?

Tip for best answer: M$1.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to Laura Shumaker of sfgate.com, about the portrayal of Aspergers Syndrome in Parenthood, she posted that "Max Braverman's character, as portrayed by Max Burkholder, is the most accurate depiction of a child with high-functioning Asperger's as I've seen in the electronic media. He's been able to pass as quirky and stubborn, in spite of his rigidity and outbursts of rage. It's only when the administrators of Max's school suggest that they "might not be the right fit" (in other words, they want him out), that Max's parents have to confront the gravity of the problem.

With Parenthood, television has taken one small step for humankind and a giant leap for autism awareness."

I have a 20 yr old son with asperger's who wasn't diagnosed until middle school. I have been blown away by how great this show has done at showing a real person and not a stereotype. It's very real.
